Our History

Since 2004 Boxes of Delight have been providing original and high quality replica historical artefacts to schools across the North East of England.  From 2007 onward we have received funding from the John George Joicey Bequest to ensure that the quality of our boxes and the range of topics available meet the needs of our audience. Since the introduction of this funding in 2007 our service has reached over a quarter of a million users.

Predominantly our members are schools, however anyone can become a member and loan boxes. Recently we have been working with our Communities team to bring to the service a range of Community Museum Object Boxes.  These have been developed by one of our communities officers to ensure that they meet the needs of the groups who will borrow them.

Which Box Should I Borrow?

Our school boxes are very much developed with the National Curriculum in mind.  As the curriculum changes, our boxes change.

Our community boxes cover topics that may not be linked to certain time periods.  For example, the childhood boxes have a range of artefacts from across the ages.

All of our boxes come with a contents list and interpretation related to each object.

All you have to decide is which one best fits the needs of the group you're working with. If you need an idea of what is in each box, follow the links at the top of the page and take a peek inside.

Useful Resources

As we work towards bringing together a range of digital resources for you to use with the groups you work with we will be sharing them in our Useful Resources section featured above. We already have our Secret Bunker video but we have so many exciting plans to create more wonderful pieces to help bring our boxes to life.
